Eric Clapton Tribute Bands: Classic Clapton
Classic Clapton are widely acclaimed as the UK's No.1 Eric Clapton tribute band.
The band was formed way back in 1985 and their natural ability to flawlessly re-create Clapton’s electrifying stage performances really caught the public's imagination. The frontman (Mike Hall) not only looks the double of Eric Clapton but he also sings and plays guitar like him too!
In 1999, Mike won a national lookalike competition held at Madam Tussauds in London. He has met Clapton twice and even received a message of encouragement from the guitar wizard himself.
Tyne Tees Television were so impressed by the band that they made a programme about them called 'Cover Their Tracks'. They were filmed at Newcastle Opera House in front of 600 mesmerized fans. This documentary received rave reviews and won the band national recognition.
Shortly after this they embarked on a highly successful nationwide theatre tour, the show was called 'Classic Clapton'. Since then, they have continued to perform throughout the UK and Europe including concerts at The Royal Festival Hall (London) and a triumphant appearance at Glastonbury Festival.
Classic Clapton have become something of a rock institution over the years. They have released three albums, the first one “The Music of Eric Clapton” contains 17 authentic cover versions of classic Clapton tracks. Their second album "Classic Clapton Unplugged" was recorded at Belfast Waterfront Hall. Their third album “Classic Cream” featured 20 songs by the sixties supergroup.
Classic Clapton consists of four outstanding musicians:- Mike Hall (lead vocals/guitar), Vince Mason (drums) and John Forster (bass guitar/backing vocals). On keyboards/backing vocals is Paul Warren.
Reviews:
"Not only is Clapton the major influence on the group, Mike Hall has an uncanny resemblance to the great man. In fact, he looks more like Clapton than Clapton does in recent times! And as a guitarist, Mike too is outstanding. He is backed by superb musicians." (Mark Iveson, Leisure Magazine)
"Not an empty seat in the house and the anticipation growing with Classic Clapton in mind. The lights go down and Slow Hand begins his magic. Eric (aka Mike Hall) starts with a couple of classics then comes the blues, and God you can feel the energy and emotion. The first set was full of absolutely amazing tracks from the Blues Breakers through to Cream, each pitched perfectly in its own way. The interlude beckons and it's time to reflect on the pure brilliance I have seen. But there is still more to come. It is time for the acoustic set. What can I say but "Wow!". Tears in Heaven is a moving track, and tonight it felt like I was the only person in the room and they played it just for me. Hold on, a change of pace and out comes the Fender Strat again. Then it came like a bolt of lightening from the gods…that riff from Layla. Every track was played to perfection. If you get the chance to see this brilliant band, take it. I guarantee you will not be disappointed" (Jon Wallis, The MAGAZINE)
If you're a fan of Eric Clapton then you will absolutely love Classic Clapton. You'll hear them performing authentic versions of all the popular Clapton Classics including: Wonderful Tonight, Tears in Heaven, Crossroads, Lay Down Sally, I Shot The Sheriff, Sunshine of Your Love, Cocaine and of course Layla!
