Cleveland began his music career in 1972 as the lead singer of a band called Rokotto. The band were signed to State Recording Company which was part of Warner Bros. They had a couple of hits and performed on Top of The Pops. Rokotto did support tours with The Four Tops, Millie Jackson and Brass Construction, a funk band from America who had 2 hit records.
